COLUMBIA BASIN LEAGUE PRE-SEASON FAVORITES
FAVORITES
4A: RICHLAND, PASCO and WALLA WALLA should all be up toward the top battling for the league title. Talissa Huntsman is back on the mound for the Bombers after earning the league's player-of-the-year honors a season ago. The Blue Devils should counter with first-team hurler Kaela DeBroeck, and Pasco has first-team selection Jessica Solbrack back on the mound.
3A: Plenty of talent returns for KAMIAKIN after the league champs failed to make the state tournament a year ago with only two losses in league play. Renae Kimbell, the league's player of the year, is back at catcher along with plenty of first-teamers, including first-team pitcher Deni Teel.
CONTENDERS
4A: First baseman Sammy Smith leads MOSES LAKE after taking first-team honors last year. Outfielder Shawnee Durbin and designated hitter Shelby Gonzales also come back for the Chiefs after taking all-league honors last year.
3A: Old Mid-Valley League rivals WEST VALLEY and HANFORD always are dangerous. The Falcons went .500 in league before making state, and the Rams just missed going to state. All-league players Hannah Hester and Aubrey Packard are back in the outfield for the Rams, and Emily Harpel, who was a honorable-mention pitcher, is the main girl on the mound this season with Kristina Doty graduated.
MIGHT SURPRISE
4A: Developing pitching on a team with no seniors and only three juniors will be the main task at EISENHOWER, where third baseman Vanessa Alamo is the only returning all-league player. ... DAVIS snapped a 145-game losing streak dating back to 2000 with a victory against Wapato earlier this season. Stephanie Windisch will be on the mound for her senior year with the Pirates.
3A: Plenty of girls at SUNNYSIDE will get their first varsity experiences this year. Sarasa Partida decided to play golf this year after suffering a knee injury during basketball, costing the team an all-league player. Seniors Victoria Ramos, Casi Guillen and Cassie Luther should lead the young team.
