Hanford Cheer Squad Gets Third in Nation

Hanford High School's Varsity Cheer Squad earned third place in the 2008 American School Spirit Awards competition. Judges evaluated the portfolios of 40 cheerleading teams from across the nation. The judging categories were community service, academics, athletic support, spirit raising ability and cheer skill.

"I'm proud of these girls for achieving third place nationally," said Coach Kim Mayer. "This award is a reflection of the Hanford High cheer program as a whole. Over the years, each girl has made an impact and helped build it."

The Hanford High Cheer Squad helps out the community by volunteering at the Domestic Violence Shelter, participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and raising money for the Tri-Cities Cancer Center through the Pink Game for Breast Cancer fundraising event.

The girls spearhead all sorts of activities to engage fans in supporting Hanford High School teams including Falcon Fan Frenzy and Friday Spirit Days.

The squad has a 3.24 overall grade point average. Members are: Alyssa Clary, Hunter Hammersmith, Noelle Hayden, Hope Leinen, Alyssa McElroy, Cindy Milardovic, Kelly Morgan, Jaclynn Sanchez, Tiffany Sanger, Hannah Siglin, Chelsea Skjerva, Kelsey Smith, Taylor Ward, Racquel Watkins, Tori Williamson and Cheyenne Zampelli.

2008-09 CHEERLEADER NOTES:

Hanford Cheerleaders had a very successful week at AWSP/NCC Cheer Camp this summer. Their week included learning several dances, sidelines, stunts, and team building activities. Each day the team was evaluated on their skills and received superior blue ribbons as well winning the spirit stick, which is voted on by the other campers! Our senior cheerleaders' week was made when BOTH were asked to be NCA Staff Instructors for next summer!! Way to go, Falcons!

2007-08 CHEERLEADER NOTES:

For the THIRD consecutive year, our HHS cheerleaders have won the Washington State Sideline Championship. Cheer teams from across our state submit DVD's, which showcase their spirit raising, crowd leading, and cheer skill. A panel of skilled cheer coaches, WIAA members, and athletic directors choose the best sideline cheerleaders!! YOUR Flacon cheerleaders have been the champions for the last three years!! A big thank you must go out to our Falcon Fans as they MAKE our spirit SOAR!!!!
